It is not mandatory to get copyright protection but always
advisable to do so because it will give the owner a certain set of minimum
rights over his work and the protection that no one will be able to copy his
work for a minimum period of time. This satisfaction will always motivate the
owner to do more work and create more items.
There is no mandatory rule over
getting the copyright protection, but it is better to be on the safer side. The
copyright gives the owner certain rights over their work and security that
their work cannot be copied for the given period of time. The registrar of
Copyright has categorized art into the following under The Copyright Act, 1957,
they are:
PART – 1: Literary works other than
computer Programs
PART – 2: Musical Works
PART – 3: Artistic Works
PART – 4: Cinematography Films
PART – 5: Sound Recording
PART – 6: Computer Programs,
tables & Compilations
Proceed for copyright registration
For obtaining the copyright registration, following steps
should be taken:
- File an application with all the details in the format of form IV and send it the registrar. the applicant also needs to pay a small fees.
- The application has to be signed by the applicant and the advocate in hose favor the POA is executed.
- Then, the registrar issues a Dairy no. after that there is a mandatory waiting time period of 30 days for countering any objection.
- When there is no objection, then the application is investigated and registration is complete.
